Explore the dark side with Absent Cause: Underground cultures, hidden histories, feminist and queer sexualities, size-acceptance, chosen families and radical politics; vampirism, the gothic, horror and the macabre; surviving abuse, coping with mental illness/dangerous gifts, self-harm and suicide.

Everybody dies. But in our underground and radical communities we often have very different ways of coping with death than the dominant culture.

What does the prospect of death mean to someone who’s lived through violent abuse? Discrimination? Mental illness?

How does a revolutionary or artist contemplate what their contribution may mean after their death?

How do we express our fears, celebration, anger, and/or desire for death? Can death be sexy?

The theme of the third issue of Absent Cause zine is death, dying, and undeath.

Everybody dies. But in our underground and radical communities we often have very different ways of coping with death than the dominant culture.

What does the prospect of death mean to someone who’s lived through violent abuse? Chronic disease? Discrimination? Mental illness?

How does a revolutionary or artist contemplate what their contribution may mean after their death?

How do we express our fears, celebration, anger, and/or desire for death?

Can death be sexy?

Absent Cause #2 -- Deadline Approaching

Thu Nov 13, 2008, 6:48 PM
Consider this a friendly nudge...

The deadline for submissions to Absent Cause #2 is December 1.

Duality is the theme -- doppelgangers, mirrors, shadows, doubles, our bodies and our body-images, twins, split or multiple personalities, mental illness/dangerous gifts, bisexuality, gender swapping and gender play, immigrants living in a foreign culture, interracial identity, etc. But don't feel bound by this if you want to contribute ... there are no hard and fast rules.

Then new issue will be published in January 2009.

Please submit your harrowing stories of survival, writing, poetry, artwork, photography, comix, recipes, reviews, crazy evil kinky DIY projects, etc.

Contact me with your submissions and feedback:
